I love the way the camera sees the world, it can be so unique, so different than what is actually there when I take the photograph. My goal is to take photographs that show the world the way I see it,  using the unique photographic abilities that I have, the technical abilities of my camera, and my digital darkroom skills to output the best photograph "equivalent" that I can; a photograph that is wholly representative of my vision in photography and art.  I am not a documentarian or a photo journalist, I edit, delete, and change as needed.  My goal is photographic art and there is no "right" or "wrong" involved in that.
Most years I take a trip to the Northern Central Valley of California.  I only live an hour and a-half away from the freeway that takes me to many of the wildlife refuges I like to frequent.  These refuges are located south from Merced up to Gridley, north.  The best time to visit for photography is December and January as this is when the birds are traversing the Pacific Flyway, which they do every year.  This flyway is a major north-south flyway for migratory birds in the Americas, it extends for 4,000 miles from Alaska to Patagonia.  The flyway extends east-to-west for about 1,000 miles and includes Arizona, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and some portions of other mid-western states. More than 350 species of birds, including waterfowl, shorebirds and raptors, use this route annually.

Over time I've photographed Bufflehead, Cinnamon Teal, Blue-winged Teal, Barrow's Goldeneye, Snow Geese, White-fronted Geese, Canada Geese, Northern Pintail, Grebe, Northern Shoveler, Cormorant, Harrier, Hawks, Ibis, Coot, and a host of other wildlife that lives, breeds, and feeds in the marsh and wooded areas that the Central Valley provides.  The area also provides plenty of opportunity for stunning sunset or sunrise landscape shots.
