Hummingbirds
I've been photographing a lot of hummingbirds recently as I have not traveled anywhere very far for the last couple of months. Summer is not a great time to photograph wildlife, crowds, heat, dry and barren, etc., and my home is located in the California foothills and fire danger is generally high these days in summer so I've stayed near home. Luckily I live in a rural area and there are some places nearby where I can get photographs and sometimes even right at my home.
I've been feeding about 15 hummingbirds off two feeders right at my front porch, they do eat a lot! It's been fun to observe as they flit about and play with one another, very active little birds. Hummingbirds weigh less than a pound, so very tiny but so very fast and energetic.
The images below were shot from my porch, sometimes standing only 10 feet, as well as from a resort about two hours away from my home,. I've also included some shots of a wonderful large moth called a Hummingbird Moth, in the Sphinx family of moths. So very interesting and I don't see them often but this one was at my hummingbird feeder.
