Wildlife of the Pacific Flyway
This 80-page soft cover photo book is filled with images of California 's Central Valley wildlife that lives and migrates under the Pacific Flyway. California is home to a network of wildlife refuges and protected wildlife areas. More than 350 species of birds, including waterfowl, shorebirds and raptors, use this route annually. The Pacific Flyway is a major pathway for migratory birds that brings them directly over the Central Valley of California. Cassinetto has captured this wildlife in their natural setting and includes images of ducks, geese, egret, heron, and other birds and wildlife. Images include White-fronted geese, snow geese, ibis, shoveler ducks, pintail ducks, heron and egret, Black-necked Stilt, hawks, owl, sandhill crane, and more. Mustangs of the Eastern Sierra Nevada
Mustangs of the Eastern Sierra Nevada is a small, hard-cover beautiful book with more than 45 full-color images of mustangs in a wild setting in the Eastern Sierra Nevada, a range of mountains to the east of Hwy. 395 in California. The herd I photographed is probably the White Mountain herd (it’s difficult to discern from the map and it does say the White Mountain Herd is east of Benton and the horses I photographed were west of Benton) and is a part of the White Mountain Wild Horse Territory. There is another nearby herd called the Montgomery Pass Wild Horse Territory herd but that seems to be on the west side of Hwy. 395 and near Mono Lake. The White Mountain herd has been there, documented, since the 1870s. The origin of the herd is unknown but could be from free-roaming ranch horses. The herd is managed by the U.S. Forest Service and maybe in conjunction with the Bureau of Land Management. Herds in the U.S. are managed by the U.S. Forest Service but they may coordinate with other organizations since herds are widespread in some cases. The U.S. Forest Service lists 34 herds, in California, Arizona, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, and Utah. Most of the herds are in Nevada. |
